About National Honor Society (NHS)
National Honor Society is an organization formed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to recognize academic achievement and promote leadership and character development in the school.
Every NHS chapter has unique but similar requirements for local membership. Most chapters require candidates to exceed a 3.0 GPA (equivalent to a B, or 85%); candidates are then evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, and character (see article IX of the NHS Constitution). A major tenant of National Honor Society is the commitment to community service. Each student member of the City Honors College Preparatory Charter School of National Honor Society completes additional hours (300+ hours) of community service beyond the service hours required for graduation, a portion of which is devoted to academic tutoring and peer mentoring.Students -http://www.nhs.us/resources/how-to/become-a-student-member.aspx’,’National Honor Society
